Twitter announces an initiative on the proper use of patents

twitter patent

Twitter with a very promising initiative announced Innovator's Patent Agreement, an agreement under which the companies promised to use the patents of their engineers for defensive purposes unless they receive the express permission of the authors of these patents. He says, indeed, that will enable engineers to maintain control of these patents the right to use as they wish.

The move comes shortly after the revelation that the popular feature 'pull to refresh' that exists in iOS applications is now patented in the name of Twitter Inc. With this agreement, the company promises that it will use its rights against other companies in the area.

The agreement will also apply if the patent ownership is changed because of a takeover, for example by giving the control to the original inventor. This consolidation strengthens the intellectual property, but denied the power of the lawyers who use the various patents on pipelines.

Twitter assures that employees can be assured that patents are filed and the company will only be used as a shield and never as a weapon. You can read the full text of the agreement here. It will be interesting to see what the companies will participate in this initiative.

Twitter secretly selling all tweets in advertising companies!

Most Twitter users believe that unlike Facebook is protected on privacy issues, and the tweets are visible only to those who choose.

This is to refute the recent revelation that Twitter actually keeps records of all tweets from January 2010 onwards and then sell to the British company Datasift to provide targeted ads without the knowledge of users.

What the Datasift is to analyze all daily tweets and then sells useful information on companies-customers (for example if someone mentions the name of a company or product). The information costs up to £ 10.000 per month and more than 1000 companies are currently waiting in the queue.

The Nick Pickles, leader of the team to safeguard privacy, Big Brother Watch, commented:

"Users may think that the tweets are personal property but apparently this is far from reality. It is clear that when a service is free, we are not customers but the products."

Twitter: Soon advertisements (promoted tweets) applications for Android and iOS

Like any big company that respects itself, so Twitter announced that it will start serving ads through their official applications for Android devices and iOS.

The good thing is that the timeline will show the user as promoted tweets and not as pop-up ads, while at the beginning will be visible only to a small number of users and especially to those who follow specific brands.

Until now, promoted tweets only appear when making search through the application, but with the tremendous evolution of Twitter (soon will surpass the 500 million users) and easy penetration in portable devices (55% of total traffic), came time to get some money.
