Portable devices like the new iPad tend to use screens with high resolution and density pixel, but so far laptops and desktops do not offer comparable quality. Intel believes that this situation will change soon. In the Developer Forum in Beijing, Intel said that by 2013, larger devices will display a corresponding quality of Retina too.
The statement shall include devices such ultrabooks 11 inches with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 up to desktops 21 inch screen with 3840 x 2160. Of course these features will not be as dense as the new iPad (which features 2048 x 1536 resolution in 9.7-inch screen) but this is mainly due to the fact that the largest devices have made their screen at a typical viewing distance.
For example, the user is approximately 60 cm from a desktop, while this distance is halved when using smartphone. However, such a change would require operating systems that can support high resolutions, something that at least Microsoft is trying to achieve with Windows 8.
