International scientific team discovered a new method of data storage on magnetic media using heat, which allows hundreds of times faster recording than present devices.
Instead of using a magnetic field, scientists were able to burn using only heat, successfully enroll several terabytes of data persecond. Considering that the fastest SSD now reach 500MB / s, we understand what a huge difference we can do.
Moreover, in the absence of magnetic field, and significantly reduced energy requirements something that is expected to make future storage devices not only very much faster and more efficient.
Of course, it's still too early to know when will be marketed hard drives of this technology or about how much they will cost.
